Friday:
I slept in this morning and feel a bit more normal today, thank goodness. I didn't do much, just grocery shopping in the morning. One strange thing was that I was physically bumped into by three different people - it was definitely them doing the bumping, not me - and that is unusual because Australians are considered to have very large personal space areas compared to most other cultures, we stay far enough apart that accidental touch is quite unusual. The supermarket wasn't particularly crowded. But three people bumped into the back of me at different times. Was I invisible today? Or is my butt now so big people can't get past it easily?
Jasmine went off to yet another sleepover. I allowed it because it is still school holidays (back to school on Monday) but I'm not really happy that she gets little sleep and eats a lot of junk food. She certainly enjoys them. They don't seem to have any playdates that aren't sleepovers these days! On the other hand, I am happy that after eight months here she has really settled in and made new friends, and she is doing better at school than ever before. Aiden has friends he plays with at school but has never had anyone over or been asked to a birthday party yet, and his recent report card was pretty average. He seems happy, but maybe he isn't as fully settled yet.
Speaking of making new friends, the library doesn't seem to have put aside this month's book club book for me. I only went to one meeting then missed two, but I had intended to go along again. I guess they've given up on me. I'll try to get a hold of the book anyway (Go Set A Watchman) and go along, I'm sure they'd be fine for me to turn up again.
We've talked of getting a swimming pool for a while, I had one contractor come out ages ago but Tim insisted on getting three quotes and the companies I contacted didn't build in this area or there was some other issue. So this week, with Tim home, I put it into his hands. One guy came yesterday and another is visiting tomorrow. They look at the site (solid rock) and the access (too narrow) then sit us down for an hour and talk about how expensive and difficult it will be! But possible. So they tell us about how their product (concrete vs fibreglass, chlorine vs salt vs mineral etc) is so much better than the others and worth the extra money. We can afford to get a pool, but whether we can get our tropical resort dream pool is another matter! An above-ground pool would be much cheaper but isn't really an option because our backyard slopes steeply up - if we perched a pool up there without digging we'd end up looking down over fences into our neighbours' back yards. Getting council approval can take ages so we need to get onto it now if we want a pool for this summer.

Eight: better
Tuesday:
When I woke this morning I felt like I was going to be sick forever and it was hardly worth getting out of bed. But by lunchtime I was feeling almost normal. Yay!
Daylight Saving ended here on the weekend, I'm still getting used to the changes in sleep and eating patterns. But did well today.
What I ate:
B: yoghurt with passionfruit, tea.
L: taco salad, tea.
S: tomato soup, apple, cheese and crackers.
D: roast beef, potato, broccoli, cucumber.
Water: 12 cups.
Afternoon is a tricky time. I tend to get a bit hungry, and when the kids get home they are allowed to have treats from their Easter Basket/Showbag. It's hard to watch and resist. I generally leave the room. Today I had to go and eat an apple. Then a bit later both children were eating cheese and crackers and I had some. It eroded my calorie budget for dinner a bit, but turned out ok.
Jasmine got her first term interim report card from school, the equivalent of an A in everything except Geography where she got a B. Excellent report! She also had a Chinese oral test today which she did well on after practicing with her Aunty Ping. Apparently the main negative in the test was that she doesn't speak loudly or clearly enough. She is very shy and this has always been a problem when she has to speak publicly. She is very diligent with her homework. I'm glad she's settled into high school so well.

Waiting
Wednesday:
Healing has kicked into high gear. I woke once during the night to go to the bathroom, got right back to sleep, and in the morning woke to find myself sleeping on my right side (which has lately been the wrong side) with no pain! Yay! Only a little discomfort when I started moving around this morning. So awesome to be feeling well again.
On the downside it was a pretty frustrating day, waiting to hear from the bank. We really want to put in an offer on this particular property. I'm worried someone else will get it first! And even if they don't, we aren't keen on having to bid at auction, which we've never done. I felt a bit anxious and out of sorts all day and kept checking my email. Ironically, the less I am preoccupied with how horrible I feel, the more stressed I feel about the move! I guess I was too distracted before.
More cleaning and packing and sorting. The house is looking a lot less cluttered.

No title
Tuesday:
So, after a couple of days of feeling worse (and sorry for myself) I had a much better night last night, not waking until 5:15 and even then not enough discomfort to take painkillers. I had trouble getting back to sleep, but that was just because of thinking about exciting/stressful move stuff. Like that this house we want to buy has hardly any cupboard space. Here we have lots. We have a whole enormous built-in just for board games. It's a minor issue and I'm not worried, but these are the sort of thoughts I have lying awake.
After I got up I continued to feel better, lately I've needed a couple of hours before I can get my day started, and even then stop after filling half a box. But today I was relatively full of beans and dove into packing. I got five boxes packed before the kids got home from school as well as going through a stack of paperwork and some other stuff. Still trying to clear clutter as I go! I was pretty exhausted by the end of the day but it was so much better than the past few days. Hopefully I'm on the mend now.
Jasmine's big dance concert is this weekend and she has rehearsals every night and then three performances over the weekend. She has a sore throat and I'm a bit worried about overwork. She's generally very healthy so she should be ok, but I won't hesitate to keep her home from school or rehearsal if I think she needs a break. The concert is a pretty big deal, a very professional production. She got her first real tutu for the ballet, all in white with a stiff skirt that means she can hardly get through doorways. Very cute! She's not on pointe shoes yet. Her other dance is jazz.

Last day at 44
Wednesday:
I couldn't use my CPAP last night due to nasal congestion, but I feel much better today. Hopefully I've washed away those germs with all the water I drank yesterday.
My daughter had a little expo at school this morning, her class was showing off a recent project they did on animal biomes. Jasmine and her friend Jedda did a diorama and poster about the polar bear.
The black pellets are apparently representing polar bear poo. I didn't ask whether the polar bears were supposed to have built the snowman themselves, and if so where did they get the scarf and hat?
Tim and the kids rode their bikes up to the school and I walked. It was so cold, and very foggy. This is the school oval with the school in the background but you can't see it at all.
Tears seemed to freeze on my cheeks which was very painful, and my glasses fogged up. I could have driven there, but it is less than a kilometre away and I'm trying to get more activity in. And the kids do it every day, and Tim rides to work in every weather. I am just not used to it, safe in my warm cocoon of a home.
Back home, I spent several hours cooking. A healthy lunch, and soup, and casserole for tonight. I was really clumsy today, spilling things badly several times and also nearly tripping over myself. I'm sure it's the result of this flu or whatever messing with my inner ear. Probably not a good day to take up tightrope walking over Niagara Falls.
I did a meditation in the afternoon which of course segued into another brief nap. The program wakes me up at the end (when I count to five you will wake up -- it works); I really should turn that option off! That way I might get more than 20 minutes sleep.
With just two days of healthy eating plus drinking lots and lots of water, I have lost 1.5 kg, nearly all the extra weight I gained in the past few weeks. The problem will be keeping it off -- it's my birthday tomorrow! Tim and I are going out to lunch and I will have dessert, but I will try not to go overboard. 45 years on this earth, that is something to think about.
Report card:
Diet: Excellent.
Breakfast: High fibre oats with linseed and Nutella, only half an "instant" serve as I was in a hurry. Cup of tea an hour later after I got back from the school.
Morning snack: Cheese and crackers. Apple.
Lunch: Quinoa "fried rice" with chicken and vegetables. One piece of chocolate.
Afternoon snack: Two bowls of homemade spicy roast tomato soup. Cashews. Tea.
Dinner: Chicken and olive casserole.
Exercise: Ok. Only did the walk to the school and back.
Water: Excellent. Ten glasses.
Sleep: Ok. No CPAP.
Mental health: Ok.

More productive
Thursday:
Yet another day! They go past so quickly.
Quite headachy today, which is annoying, but emotionally I'm doing ok. Talked to Wendy again about funeral arrangements, should be next Wednesday she thinks assuming the autopsy is finalised.
Those people who tried to scam me (and very nearly succeeded) some months ago called yet again today, that is twice in the past week. This time I said "How can you live with yourself? You are a thief and a liar," and she hung up. I hate being reminded so often that they nearly got me the first time, I was on the phone with them for a long time believing their story before I suddenly realised. I felt so stupid and gullible. It's something I really want to forget. I suppose I should be grateful that I caught on in time and now I'm more cautious. But I don't like having to assume the worst of strangers. I liked being naïve and assuming the best always.
I don't feel like I wasted the day today, I didn't have a lot of fun but I was a lot more productive.
