School holidays again already?

Monday:

Yesterday I sat around feeling unwell and sorry for myself, feeling like I was wasting my life watching TV and playing with my iPhone. I did NOT take extraordinary care (as Sean puts it) with looking after my diet or water intake. Tim was pretty much better and looked after the kids and the cooking etc.

Today I am feeling mostly better, Tim is back at work, Jasmine has a bit of a cough but is otherwise fine, Aiden didn't even get sick at all, so we're back to real life. (Edit: by evening Aiden had got the runny nose, so here we go again.) Two weeks of winter school holidays have started. The weather is cold and miserable so it's strictly indoor activities. Today we kept it to a big grocery shopping trip and the kids have been fine entertaining themselves at home. But I'll have to start thinking of things to do! There are two good-sounding animated movies on at the moment, so that will fill... several hours. Hmmm... the indoor trampoline park, the library, the awesome but expensive motorised go-cart track, the science museum, the dinosaur museum... we'll find something.

Report card:
Diet: Poor.
Exercise: Poor.
Water: Ok.
Sleep: Poor.
Mental health: Ok.

I need to finish shaking off this illness, but in the meantime stop using that and having the kids home as excuses to eat poorly! It was only a week ago that I was using my glucose intolerance as motivation. That health issue hasn't gone away!

  1. You read my blog, am I as hard on myself as you are on your self? Cause this could be an eye opening experience lol, cut yourself some slack. You've been sick! You were doing pretty stellar there before all this came up. Got to get off your own case sometimes, Nat.

    Go-Carting sounds fun :)

    1. I think we're often our own worst critic! But being sick for days really gets me down.

  2. So I'm just curious - don't kids play outside when it's cold (but not raining) where you live? I live in the very northern part of the US and kids here play outside (dressed warmly of course) until it is below zero fahrenheit and many people (including my husband) ride bikes to work year round, even when it is minus 25 fahrenheit (with googles, ski hats, etc.) I guess it's what you're used to, but if kids don't play outside due to cold temperatures I am surprised!

    1. My son, at least, will play outdoors in any weather, and my husband bikes to work. But my daughter and I are more indoor people, I guess I was thinking of my own preferences when I said we would be staying indoors! I grew up on the coast where it never gets this cold and I'm still not used to it after 15 years, I probably don't really have the right clothes either.

  3. I think your kids will have fun at any of those choices Natalie! I'm sorry to hear your little boy is getting sick. It seems like when one person catches something, everyone does! Hope the little guy is better soon.
