Cabin fever

Wednesday:

Is it Wednesday? The days all seem to run into each other.

A couple of victories today; I made myself exercise (30 mins of Just Dance) and I had a healthy lunch when I really didn't want to! But I still had some chocolate in the afternoon.

I'm getting a bit frustrated with my weight. I lost a lot in the first two days, but nothing at all since then. I've bobbed up and down around 200g - that is one glass of water and means nothing. I know I haven't been perfect and need to work on exercising more and avoiding chocolate, but my base metabolic rate is around 1530 calories - that is if I just lie in bed breathing - and I've eaten less than that every day so I should be going down a little bit! I weigh myself every day because I find I get less stressed about fluctuations that way and don't build myself up expecting a big loss, but after more than a week of no movement at all I'm getting annoyed.

I'll have to take the kids out somewhere tomorrow, rain or not. Aiden is getting cabin fever. Maybe I am too! And I need to buy food. We are not in one of the flooding areas where people are advised to stay off the roads if possible. Tim gets to and from work ok, driving to the station instead of riding his bike. But I am listening to the wind and rain batter the windows and wondering. Tomorrow is supposed to be the last day of rain. We'll see.

  1. I soooo understand about cabin fever, especially those years when our winters are very long and very cold.

  2. Weight loss is unfortunately more complicated than a simple calories in/calories out. Some people lose weight simply by reducing calories, which is great. I don't unless the reduction is HUGE or the exercise is extreme. When I was trying to lose 30 pounds, and young enough to run 5 miles a day 6 days a week, I went 3 weeks without losing anything while strictly adhering to 1200 calories a day. And I felt like I was starving. Switching to more protein and fewer carbs resulted in a very slow loss of those 30 pounds. Some people seem to be very sensitive to carbs, certainly I am and perhaps you are as well. Also I'll note that when I was losing the weight (and had back pain issues and was told not to run) I was exercising a minimum of 2 hours a day, mostly walking. I have kept off the weight for years but still walk around 10-12,000 steps a day and generally eat just 2 meals and 1 snack a day, thanks to an old metabolism (I'm 63). I'm wishing you luck and don't be discouraged. But if what you're doing isn't working, you might try another approach. We all seem to respond differently to different approaches.

    1. I don't know if I've ever stuck to a diet long enough to be definitive, but I'd say low carb works for me. My current plan is pretty low carb, moderate protein and fat, lots of vegetables.

  3. We have no rain lately but bitter cold winds. Doesn't keep me inside the house, but keeps me inside walls.

  4. Cold winds are nasty, they go right through you!

  5. I am the same with my weigh-ins, I am less "temperamental" about the losses/gains if they are monitored daily!

    1. If I waited a week or a month I would expect such a big loss, and then maybe be crushed. I don't expect too much from 24 hours.
